Three Types of Saves
Afterplay offers three different ways to save your progress:
Save States
Complete game snapshots that capture everything—your exact position, inventory, health, and even a screenshot of the moment you saved. Save states work across all games and can be created manually or automatically.
In-Game Saves (SRAM)
These are the game's own internal save files—the same saves you'd have on original hardware. Games handle these differently: some have save points, others auto-save, and some use battery-backed memory.
Fallback Saves
A safety net that automatically backs up your in-game saves at regular intervals. If the game crashes or you accidentally overwrite a save, your fallback save has you covered.
Cloud Sync
Your saves automatically sync across all your devices. Start playing on your phone and continue on your desktop—your progress is always there.
Save States
Save your exact position anytime with manual save states. Auto save states are created regularly and when you exit a game.
Auto-Save Configuration
Customize how auto-saves work for each game:
- Toggle auto-save - Enable or disable automatic save states
- Auto-save interval - Choose how often: 30 seconds, 1 minute, 2 minutes, 3 minutes, 4 minutes, or 5 minutes
- Auto-save on exit - Automatically create a save state when you exit the game
Auto-Load Preferences
Control what happens when you launch a game:
- Latest save state - Load the most recent save state (manual or auto)
- Latest autosave - Load only the most recent auto save state
- Latest manual save - Load only the most recent manual save state
- Latest in-game save - Load the most recent in-game save (SRAM)
- No auto-load - Start fresh and choose your save manually
Fallback Saves
Fallback saves automatically back up your in-game save data at regular intervals, creating a safety net in case of crashes or accidents.
Configure the backup interval to suit your play style:
- 10 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 minute, 2 minutes, 3 minutes, 4 minutes, or 5 minutes
If something goes wrong, you can restore from your fallback save and pick up where you left off.
Save Profiles
Premium users can create multiple save profiles per game—perfect for different playthroughs, challenge runs, or sharing saves with friends.
- Each profile has its own separate saves (states, in-game, and fallback)
- A default profile is created automatically for every game
- Switch between profiles easily with the profile selector
- Great for keeping different playthroughs organized
Import & Export
Bring your existing saves from other emulators or export them to use elsewhere.
